Defense Dept apologizes for burial of Viet Nam corporal

Senate urged overhaul of burial policy after a Maui funeral lacked honor guards taps and riflemen. Senator Inouye condemned the mismanagement and the Defense Department promised changes to ensure military rites are provided from nearest active forces. Deputy Defense Secretary Vance apologized and outlined a new process to notify Army headquarters Honolulu.

Russell to preside over Paris trial of Johnson and Rusk

Bertrand Russell announced in New York that a trial of President Johnson and Secretary of State Rusk would be held in Paris in November. A 10 person jury would include Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir with about 200 North Vietnamese witnesses cited.
