Plymouth village faces a water shortage with the tower dry and wells failing to meet demand. A special council meeting discussed mandatory or voluntary business closures to conserve water, plus emergency fire support and neighboring communities offering aid.
State Rep John Begala proposes Kent State University convert University School into a gym annex instead of building anew near the site where four students died in a National Guard shooting. Trustee Blakemore, Akron attorney, reportedly raised the idea at a trustees meeting last Friday.
Huron County commissioners vote to sell 135 automatic voting machines to Lorain County for 50000 and rent computer voting equipment from Fidlar and Chambers for 9900 for the November 8 election. A new system is expected to cost 95000 to 100000 and save about 12000 yearly in costs.
Paul G. Lydens, local HUD director, announced Monday his resignation for personal reasons. Effective Sept. 29, the 40 year old will depart after leading the Columbus office since May 1974 following his prior role in Washington as deputy FHA commissioner. He lives in Worthington Hills and is a Sandusky native.

Cleveland attorney Jeffrey A. Belkin has been appointed as the third member of Norwalk city schools impasse advisory panel. Dick Lyons represents the teachers. the first impasse hearing is set for Tuesday Sept 6 at 12 noon in the Norwalk Junior High School library. The panel must issue recommendations within 30 days, with nonbinding guidance unless the two sides meet within five days to resolve.
An early morning blaze damaged Russell Maze's newly built split level home at 128 S Linwood Ave. The fire stemmed from improperly installed insulation around two recessed ceiling lights. Fire Chief Elmer McGuckin called it a needless fire and said better insulation would have prevented it. Firefighters spent about two hours responding.
Prospectives Fred Stein James St John A Bizorik Jr Christie Ave and Roger W George circulate petitions to run. Incumbent Dale Rafie filed petitions Monday and Michael Myers also circulated petitions. If all five file they compete for three seats as Dr William Holman will not seek reelection. Filing deadline is Thursday at 4 p.m.
