Decision Time On Sesqui Beard Contest Signups

The final sign up date for the Sesqui Beard Contest is Saturday August 26. Contest chairman Eddie Miller says sign ups are at Rexall, K and H, Revco, or Super X stores. Meetings will show grooming techniques and entrants race for the most original beard.

Meany proposes war tax doubling for corporations

AFL-CIO President George Meany urged a war tax with a higher burden on corporations than individuals. Speaking to the House Ways and Means Committee, he backed Johnson’s 10 percent tax plan but called for corporate rates to yield about 13.4 billion dollars, double the administration estimate.

Bleile Awarded State Projects For Turnpike Landscaping

The Paul E Bleile Company of Norwalk won two state contracts in the Cincinnati Hamilton County area for the I 74 screening project at 19 853 and landscaping I 71 and I 75 at 73 534. Work slated to start next spring with a completion in fall 1968.

Ohio Senate debated delaying payments to pension fund

Rep. Ralph Cole warned of an unholy mess next January if cities do not get a oneyear delay in funding the Police and Firemen's Pension and Disability Fund. The bill, approved by the House, would extend payments to 55 years starting 1969 with rates rising from two to five percent over subsequent years, amid objections over increased costs and fairness.

Norwalk council ends lease as new airport lands later

Norwalk council voted to terminate the Norwalk Air Park lease on Route 250 north after reports of planes landing at the new Huron County Airport strip on Routes 20 and 61. The lease, started Sept 16 1965, runs on a ten day notice with a $50 monthly fee and $121 annual insurance.

Chapin Seeks Norwalk City Council Seat In First Ward

Raymond G. Chapin of 181 St. Mary's St. intends to run as the Republican candidate for Norwalk City Council in the First Ward, filling the vacancy left by Lawrence Ford. He will face Democratic incumbent Louis Nardecchia, with Chapin awaiting official acceptance by the Secretary of State and filing with Huron County.

Norwalk Truck Fees Slump Threatens Street Funds

Norwalk’s street program has relied on truck license fees. 1964 receipts were 194000 while 1967 dropped to 145000. Norwalk Chamber seeks 500 signatures for city charter vote

The Norwalk Chamber of Commerce aims to place a city charter on the ballot with 500 signatures. To date 211 signatures have been collected, with 361 required as ten percent of last municipal election voters. If enough valid signatures are gathered the City Council will move to place the charter commission on the November 7 ballot.
