Bearded Beatnick Leads Dramatic Alpine Rescue

Gary Hemming and an international team rescued two German climbers, Heinz Ramich and Hermann Mueller, from the Aiguille du Dru in the French Alps after a days long effort. The operation, coordinated by France's mountain training school, ended with the survivors brought to safety though a German climber died attempting another route.

Red Cross names Huron executive secretary

Clarence J. Luce is named executive secretary of the Huron County Red Cross and will begin duties at Norwalk headquarters on Sept. 1. A 20 year Air Force veteran, Luce survived a POW camp and later worked at Plumbrook NASA. He and his wife are Norwalk natives with five children, living at 193 Whittlesey Avenue.

A North Fairfield Ohio man was killed in an automobile crash near Coldwater Michigan this morning. He remains unidentified pending family notification. Details of the accident were not immediately available.

Tractor trailer crash and injuries blotter over weekend

A weekend surge of accidents included a tractor trailer rollover on U S 250 injuring no one but causing major damage as the driver Robert Tragesser of Penn was cited for insecure load. Power Outage After Tractor Trailer Crash Near Woodlawn

A power disruption occurred east of Woodlawn Avenue when a tractor trailer carrying heavy construction equipment struck a utility pole.
