In Reno Nevada two gunmen wearing silk stockings demanded money from a bartender. He challenged them stating If you're going to murder me go ahead. They left without violence after being told to go away.
Hurricane Camille’s death toll climbed to 106 with officials warning it would rise. Rescue crews cleared rubble across Mississippi Gulf Coast towns as 200,000+ people were left homeless. Gov Williams and President Nixon pledged aid and the area faced extensive damage and power outages.
Dr Sam Sheppard and trainer George Strickland face Wild Bill and Mr. X in a tag team bout in Jackson Ohio on Friday. Sheppard, whose public wrestling debut ended with a win over Wild Bill in Waverly for the Pike County Cancer Crusade, previously served 10 years in jail for the bludgeon death of his first wife before an acquittal at a second trial.
President Nixon’s nomination of Judge Clement Haynsworth to the Supreme Court goes to the Senate in three weeks with expectations of smooth approval. Some civil rights critics exist, but liberal senators show reserved reaction.

A 16 year old Norwalk youth, Terry J. Smith of 21 Southgate Drive, disappeared after an accident Monday near Ridge Road. Police traced the car to him. his father says Terry left home around 3 30 and may have been seen in a blue station wagon with a woman and several youths. Authorities appeal for information.
Norwalk faces a pivotal city council race this fall and informs residents that Wednesday is the last day to register. Registration offices will operate at precinct polling places from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Officials note county wide registration is new to Huron County and remind voters that after registering they need only vote every two years while keeping the same address and name.
Ohio state officials say a government computer misread tens of millions in 1968 wage data, cutting $80 million from county payroll totals. The annual report covered 40 786 county workers with wide variances, prompting a new substitute report after human error in programming and a planned reissue.
Flames tore through Rutherford B. Hayes elementary on Cleveland's East Side causing $1.5 million in damage. The building was empty. one firefighter injured. Superintendent Paul W. Briggs said reopening would take at least two years and noted it was the fourth school lost to fire in three years, totaling about $6 million in damage.
