Norwalk Schools Lead NOL in Teacher Turnover

Norwalk public schools posted the highest turnover in the Northern Ohio League, with 24 teachers leaving this year and a 15 percent rate, despite a 2.54 percent salary increase from a June levy. Monroeville Voters Reject Nine-Mill School Levy

Voters in Monroeville rejected a nine-mill continuing school levy by 634 to 582. Supt. Donald Halsey warned of delayed openings or early closings and predicted resignations as morale suffers. Mayor Clayton Lord led the anti levy side and defended the vote, while board plans to reballot the measure in November. Local precinct results show mixed support across townships and villages.

Matt Smith 18 and Cheryl Brown 18 were named King and Queen of the Huron County Junior Fair during a ceremony in the livestock judging pavilion. Former King Kevin Conger and Queen Judy Todd attended. Matt, Norwalk High School graduate, to enter the Air Force September 21 and plans a communications career. Cheryl, New London High School graduate, works at Olena Screen Printing and was senior class treasurer.
