Plane crash near Medina kills one and injures five skydivers

A plane crash near Medina resulted in the death of pilot Walte Dodge, 50, and injuries to five skydivers from a team that was to perform at the Norwalk Huron County Airport dedication. The crash occurred shortly after takeoff from Brunswick and is being investigated by the Ohio Highway Patrol and NTSB.

Chicago Cab Strike Threatens Democratic Convention Mobility

A nationwide cab strike began in Chicago at 12 01 a m jeopardizing transport for 5244 delegates and alternates ahead of the Democratic National Convention opening in nine days 3600 cabs would be needed leaving 900 small-company cabs to fill the gap 125 buses and courtesy cars are arranged to move delegates to the International Amphitheatre.

Democrats End Parade Rituals At National Convention

The Democratic Party will prohibit floor demonstrations to cut ritual delays at the national convention. John Bailey, the DNC chairman, also moves to end bands balloons and parades and nix the favorite son tradition to streamline procedures.

Weather shapers bring showers and cooler air this weekend

Showers and scattered thunderstorms move out this afternoon with a cooling trend. Highs reach the 80s and tonight turns partly cloudy and cooler with lows in the 60s. Planned riot erupts in St. Petersburg after dance hall clash

Police say a planned harassment program sparked rioting in St. Petersburg with 500 people in the Negro district. Tear gas and heavy patrols were used as 16 were arrested and 3 injured, including an officer. Gov Kirk ordered 145 officers to the scene as National Guard readiness stayed high.

Toledo youth dies in Route 62 broadside crash

Frank M. Cannon, 19, of Toledo, died after his eastbound car was struck broadside at the Route 62 entrance to The Note parking lot. Reichle, 40, of Columbus, and three passengers were treated and released from Good Samaritan Hospital in Sandusky. Cannon’s vehiclewas thrown 51 feet into a cyclone fence and a fire plug before stopping.

President of Bank J. V. Motsch Dies at 71

Joseph V. Motsch 71, president of Huron County Banking Co., died Friday after a heart attack. He came to Norwalk in 1944 as executive VP, became president in 1960, and earlier worked in Galion and Fremont. CBers Gather For Huron County CB Jamoree

About 1500 to 2000 Citizens Band operators from five states converge at the Huron County Fairgrounds for a two day CB Jamoree run by the 78 member Huron County Emergency Net. Local dealers display booths and door prizes are donated for Sunday's drawing. The group formed in 1962 after Olena telephone lines were knocked out.

Weather Promises Fine Day For Huron County Airport Dedication

The forecast calls for fair mild weather for Sunday as the Huron County Norwalk Airport dedication unfolds. Ceremonies start at 1 p.m. with Dean Ortner introducing, followed by parachute jumps airplane rides and helicopter demonstrations. Governor James Rhodes arrives at 4 30 p.m. to snip the ribbon. Sky diver Mickey Seaver will perform a flag jump during the ceremony.
