Harassed Hays Quits Reelection Bid in 1976

Rep. Wayne Hays Ohio announced he will retire at end of term amid health concerns and harassment over an affair with aide Elizabeth Ray. He had planned to run again but withdrew after the Washington Post coverage. 4 H’er Janet Reilly Plans Engineering at Fair

Janet Reilly a 17 year old Norwalk High School senior and 4 H Club member will share a first person view of a 4 H’er at the Huron County Fair. She helps with milking equipment and tractors on her dairy farm but and she does not milk cows. She is one of seven children of Mr and Mrs Robert Reilly. Janet has sewing projects in the fair style review and will team demonstrate with a friend. She plans to pursue engineering.

Ford Signs Swine Flu Insurance Law to Speed Vaccination

President Ford signed a federal swine flu insurance bill to backstop the nationwide inoculation program and start vaccinations as soon as possible. The law makes the government liable for medical lawsuits and lets it sue manufacturers or providers to recover costs. Local health officials expect vaccines to reach Huron County by mid September with high risk residents over 65 prioritized, then the general public by mid October.
