The Norwalk Furniture Corp took over the Huron County Fairgrounds Saturday for its annual company picnic. Despite occasional rain, the event offered family fun with about 650 attendees. A tug of war competition drew several participants and Gail Boyd entertained for the photographer.
Milan 21 year old John R. Mellen Jr. injured when his car left U S 250 and struck a culvert at 4 45 Sunday. He is hospitalised, not wearing a seatbelt, no citation reported. Other crashes involve Lowell Scheid Jr 18 Monroeville charged with stop sign violation after collision with Milton Daniel 37 Willard and a 10 year old passenger. Margarita Robles 20 Willard charged with following too closely after rear end crash on U S 224. No injuries in a State Route 4 incident. Randall Schiefer 17 Tiro and James Dugan 20 McConnelsville collide on SR 4. no citations. Harry Roberts 23 Willard charged with driving left of center on SR 61 and SR 103 after tractor strike by Benny Sweet 18 Willard.
Police report multiple collisions across the city. Laura R. Myers 56 of 94 Prospect St sustained back pain after a rear impact at Whittlesey Avenue and League Street when Arlene F. Lercher 28 of 60 Marshall St failed to stop due to alleged brake failure. Lercher cited for faulty brakes.
Eight people were hospitalized after a collision on Base Line Road at State Route 598. Thomas Powell Smith 23 of Sylvania reportedly lost control and crossed left of center, hitting Clarence Collins 35 of Greenwich who was in a westbound car. Collins and all passengers were treated and released. Smith was also treated and released and charged with driving left of center. In a separate incident on U S 250 north of Old State Route a Maple Construction truck trailer skidded left of center and struck Roger D. Smith 19 of Nova. Smith was treated and released. his passenger Evelyn Goble 18 of rural Norwalk was admitted with chest and knee injuries. driver Michael J. Tyler 19 of Monroeville was treated for a shoulder injury.

Aug 30 to Sept 1 events feature Michelle Miholovich Linda Naderer Debra Shane and Debbie Lake as candidates sponsored by local groups. Each plans college study and future careers in fields from librarianship to physical education.
