Norwalk Considers Day Care Center Run by Local Group

A Norwalk plan aims to open a day care center for pre school children ages three to six five days a week from 6 30 a m to 5 30 p m with a proposed weekly cost of 12 50 per child and a sliding scale for families. The center would use First Methodist Church facilities and be locally funded and operated with Mildred Burns as director and Annabelle Stewart as head teacher.

Castro warns U S against punishing Carmichael

Fidel Castro urged the United States not to punish U S Negro militant Stokely Carmichael on his return home. Castro spoke at the Cuban sponsored Latin American Solidarity Organization conference denouncing CIA actions. He warned of profound repercussions if Carmichael faced retaliation.

Route 250 bridge near completion in Norwalk area

Route 250 south bridge over the Norwalk bypass will open near the end of next week after blacktop work. One deck will be poured next week, the second in about two weeks, with sub-base and underdrains underway as crews prepare for concrete in mid September.

Demma Receives Six-Month Jail Term For Assault

Phillip Demma, 60, was acquitted of indecent liberties with a minor but found guilty of assault and battery. A three judge panel sentenced him to six months in the Toledo House of Correction at Whitehall with service to begin immediately. Denied credit for time already served.

Grassroots Group Elects Stanton Taylor Chairman

Stanton Taylor was elected permanent chairman of the Norwalk Grassroots Anti-poverty group on Tuesday night. Irvin Oglesby became vice chair and Mrs. Hazel Applegate was secretary. Applegate and Earl Lover were chosen to represent the group on the Erie Huron County CAC board of directors as by-law changes to allow grassroots director elections were ordered for a July board meeting.
