The United States Coast Guard's Cape Corwin intercepted the 75 foot racing yacht Kamaku before dawn near Honolulu. A three man crew was set adrift and the pirates signaled surrender with lights while a reconnaissance plane dropped flares overhead.
Residents in Rocky River reported mysterious red lights over Lake Erie Sunday night prompting police and airport officials to investigate. Radar tracked the blips until a private plane identified the cause: helium balloons with flares released by someone on a boat about three miles offshore.
Rugby England. Policeman Tom Boylan, after officials warned it would harm the force image, canceled plans to take on challengers in a beer drinking charity event following his record of a pint in a second and a half.
New Delhi officials announce a 20 year friendship and cooperation pact between India and the Soviet Union promising consultation on effective measures if either is attacked. Foreign Minister Swaran Singh says the accord targets no third country and may inspire similar regional treaties.

Thomas A. Dillon Jr., 43, was arrested after a resident reported glass breaking at the Shamrock Tavern 14 N Hester St. Police say pry marks matched tools used in the break-in. Dillon pleaded not guilty in Common Pleas Court and bond was set at 3500 cash or 7000 property.
Richard C. Enzor, owner of Westwood Mobile Estates, denounces city plans to buy trailer park electric systems as a public attack while demanding about 20 000 dollars. He says only five transformers and five poles were bought from the city for twenty three hundred dollars and notes no formal offer exists. John Ockenga could not comment due to being away.
Carol M. Rommell, 30, of 16 S. Prospect St., faces assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly stabbing Charles West at her home. A second man, Arthur S. Jarrett, 60, was injured when he fell on a knife during a dispute with Edna M. Collins. Both victims listed in fair condition at Fisher-Titus Memorial Hospital. Police seized two knives under a search warrant.
Park and Recreation Board meets at 8 tonight to discuss a $3000 plus bill from the city electric distribution department for lighting at McGuan Field. Also on the agenda is leasing land from Norwalk Cemetery Association for a ball diamond amid local protests from Welton Woodlawn Avenue residents.
Merritt Bud Friedley a Norwalk resident and former Norwalk Zoning Commissioner died Sunday at Fisher-Titus Memorial Hospital after a three day stay. He retired in 1968 from Friedleys Market and was a longtime member of the Elks Club. He would have marked his 45th wedding anniversary in October. He leaves widow Lucille Gregory two sisters and was predeceased by his parents and a brother. Services Tuesday at Heaston Hile Funeral Home with Elks memorials at 8 p.m. and burial in Woodlawn Cemetery.
