Washington announces a new 25 cent coin for the centennial with a revolutionary drummer boy on the reverse and Washington on the obverse dated 1776 1976. Washington mint plans in August.
The item reports public opinion questions on FBI mail photography of foreign and domestic mail to Soviet bloc missions and on divided verdicts in juries. It notes percentages favoring and opposing mail checks and invites readers to vote by calling provided numbers.
Five Japanese Red Army terrorists and five comrades freed the last 15 hostages, then boarded a DC8 bound for Libya after an 80 hour siege at the UPI report. The group had seized 53 people including U.S. Consul General Robert Stebbins and a Swedish diplomat after storming the U.S. Embassy.
Autopsy photographs of Alice White Womack were offered as evidence in the first degree murder trial of Larry D. Robinson. The Sixth District Court of Appeals had ordered a new trial over questions of prejudice versus probative value. Coroner Dr. William B. Holman testified the photos were taken after Mrs. Womack’s body was found, and some images from the car were previously shown and passed to jurors. Holman described multiple bullet wounds and blood patterns related to the fatal shooting near Greenwood Cemetery in Willard.

Also funds for wildlife areas rest stops and a 30 million U S 250 bypass. Norwalk could seek up to 2 million. Bellevue and Willard up to 1 million each.
