Mosquito Control Plan Targets Flood-Breeders in Eight Ohio Counties
Huron County and seven neighboring counties will be sprayed with malathion under state and federal health oversight. New London traps yielded the state's highest mosquito count, with 75 to 90 percent flood-water breeding types. Spraying aims to kill mosquitoes and larvae while sparing other wildlife, and malathion is described as less harmful than DDT. Norwalk has already used DDT after July floods.
