The Ohio Senate approved a 4 percent excise tax on all commercial flights by a 26 to 4 vote, with the House having passed it earlier and Gov. Rhodes expected to sign. The measure makes Ohio the first state to tax airline flights. Dolores Zaccardi, a Sayreville councilwoman missing for a month, resigns after a letter was left for the borough clerk. Police say she canceled her husband’s missing persons report.

The Ohio Senate unanimously passed a tax relief bill for July storms and flooding victims. The measure extends the tax reduction filing deadline to October 1 and includes an emergency clause. Rep. Jim Thorpe said the disaster caused about 30 million in urban property damage across 23 counties and crops worth over 40 million were destroyed. Sen. James K. Leedy noted at least 18 deaths with some missing.
