The Labor Department reports unemployment at 6.9 percent in July the lowest since the recovery began. Employment did not rise for the first time in nine months and the total number of available workers fell, a development officials call a quirk. Unemployment had hovered near 7 percent for four months.
Rockwell International chairman Willard F. Rockwell Jr and general counsel John J. Roscia sold about one sixth of their stock, totaling 1.4 million dollars, ten days before President Carter terminated the B1 bomber project. Rockwell president Robert Anderson sold 5,000 shares for 166,000 dollars earlier.
In Cincinnati a judge instructed the eight man, four woman jury in the murder trial of Cleveland physician Dr Stuart S. Kutler not to watch a TV movie about Dr Sam Sheppard. The judge warned viewing the program could raise the jurors' burden in the case.

Columbia Gas of Ohio will eliminate all curtailment except for industrial boiler fuel next winter. The company will notify about 2,370 large customers of up to six billion cubic feet of emergency gas and gain 3.5 billion cubic feet from a storage agreement to shift summer gas to winter. High priority customers should have adequate supplies if temperatures drop.
Doyle and Diana Salsberry first resisted Lamaze classes but grew to active involvement in birth. The couple founded Ohio's newest CEA branch, teaching couples six week courses biweekly and stressing partner coaching, informed consent, and teamwork with doctors, nurses, and hospitals.

Federal Power Commission officials blame Con Ed for New York July blackout citing obvious flaws in planning and equipment. Fix could cost up to 1 billion and raise rates for consumers. The report calls for nationwide system checks while Con Ed resists, citing reliability and calling the FPC findings inaccurate.
In Los Angeles Roman Polanski will plead guilty to one of six counts in a plea deal for alleged drugging and raping a 13 year old girl. Prosecutors disclosed a bargain but did not release details. Polanski has pleaded innocent to all charges.
