Quake toll climbs as 214 dead in Philippines collapse

Manila officials report 214 dead from Friday's quake with 164 bodies recovered from the Ruby Towers in Santa Cruz. Rescue spokesman says hope is fading for the remaining 200 buried as 40 survivors later died in hospitals and 10 more were killed elsewhere in the country.

Norwalk Man Named in Four $825000 Traffic Suits

Bert Newton of Norwalk is the defendant in four separate Huron County Common Pleas petitions seeking a total of $825,000 for injuries from a May 14, 1967 crash at the U S 224 and State Route 100 intersection. Fire destroys Norwalk home. furniture valued at $1,000 lost

A Sunday morning blaze gutted the Norwalk residence of Ventura and Carmen Sanchez at 50 Glover Street. Firefighters found the house fully involved, with $4,000 in structural loss and $1,500 in personal belongings burned. The family had delivered new furniture worth about $1,000 for a birthday surprise, and all items were lost. The couple and their six children escaped with relatives, noting no clear ignition cause though wiring was suspected. The family moved to Norwalk from Indianapolis two years ago.
