Apollo 15 commander David R. Scott expressed a wish to remain on the Moon for weeks to study the lunar surface. He noted a wealth of features to see and do during their six day orbit, and recalled being awakened by the 2001: A Space Odyssey theme.
A 14 member Republican bloc urged legislation to curb inflation and boost productivity with a federal wage price board. Twelve backers say it would be a step toward controls, though administration economists deem it unnecessary at present.

The Norwalk City Council authorized Service Director Herbert Krogh to hire the firm to design a new northeast water main and base work for an elevated tower. The project may cost about $500,000 total with engineering fees estimated at $18,000 to $20,000.
President Nixon denounces busing in school desegregation and urges Congress to bar use of a proposed 1.5 billion desegregation aid for busing. He directs agencies to minimize busing while complying with court orders and appeals Austin ruling to suit Supreme Court decisions.
Norwalk police Capt Henry Landoll and Ptl Michael Ruggles chased three loose horses and a pony from Cline Street to the fairgrounds along Milan Marshall Woodlawn Bank and Benedict Avenues. Residents watched as the team corralled the animals using flashing lights.
Richard Sipple, 44, a Cleveland Ignition Co salesman and Norwalk resident, won the third ward council seat in a secret five vote among councilmen to replace George Linn Jr who resigned to move to Maryland for a doctor’s program. Sipple defeated Melvin Robinson. results not disclosed.
Thomas Bergman and John W. Meyer filed petitions for Monroeville mayor with the Huron County Elections Board before the 4 p.m. deadline. Leonard Connors also took out petitions, while George Linn Jr. withdrew as Norwalk third ward aspirant and Norwalk Board of Education races draw at least four candidates. Bergman is a current councilman. Meyer, 19, cited voter disinterest in leadership.
Norwalk officials voted 9-3 to appoint the mayor as a full-time position and bar holding another job. The commission also approved appointive status for the finance and law directors, setting the stage for a strong mayor council government and potential council-manager options. The meeting included discussions on notification procedures and meeting frequency, with plans for a detailed agenda and a Kiwanis luncheon progress report. The 20th annual Ohio Municipal League Conference was announced for Dayton September 21–24.
