Water leak collapse injures officer in Watervliet

In Albany County, Patrolman Ned McLaughlin was injured when a building housing T and C Sales Co. buckled under rain filled roof. Authorities say the collapse followed a roof sag from heavy rainfall. McLaughlin suffered minor facial cuts. UPI reports.

Toledo Boy Drowns In Cincinnati Motel Pool

An 11 year old, Scott Armstrong, drowned in the Marriott Inn pool in Cincinnati as his mother and stepfather, Thomas and unknown Mrs Ryan, checked in. A lifeguard was summoned but could not revive him after attempts at resuscitation.

Moon explorers complete fourth lunar walk on Falcon

David R. Scott and James B. Irwin spent four hours and 25 minutes outside the Falcon lunar lander bringing their total time on the moon to about 18 hours and 27 minutes. They prepared for a 1 11 p.m. EDT ascent to join Alfred Worden aboard the Endeavour and conducted gravity tests and a televised hammer and feather drop.

Nine Year Old Teri Sue Smith Wins Our Little Miss Ohio

Teri Sue Smith 9, daughter of Mr and Mrs Steve Smith of 35 Chatham St, won the Our Little Miss Ohio title at Columbus in a state pageant with 13 competitors. She receives 170 dollars for a world pageant in Miami Beach and a trophy, while Tina Moyer and Pamela Fiser earned related honors. Her family celebrated at home as siblings returned from trips and plans for Miami World pageant were announced.

Ex Chief Connors Enters Monroeville Mayor Race

Leonard Connors former Monroeville police chief today took out petitions to run for mayor. Connors 42 quit last September citing long hours and declined further comment. He moved from Michigan to Monroeville four years ago and became acting chief then chief. He runs amid other petition applicants Meyer and Bergman as incumbent Mayor Salisbury will not seek re election.

Norwalk Board OKs 8 Percent Salary Increases

The Norwalk City Board of Education approved a new salary schedule for non teaching staff and granted eight percent raises to 11 administrators in a special session. The panel approved a three year contract for Building and Grounds Supervisor Robert Kramer at 12 300 annually despite one dissent.

Fremont Trucker Killed In 224 Crash

A Fremont man 40 was killed when his semi drifted left of center on U S 224 near New London. Emery Marsh 44 of Jefferson suffered minor injuries as both trucks were demolished. Sherer’s body was moved to Eastman Funeral Home awaiting transfer to Keller and Son in Fremont for funeral arrangements.
