In Oxford Ohio Bob Hope urged that national destiny rests on brain power in a Miami University commencement address. He dismissed race power as a path forward and warned college aims are often forgotten amid student dissent. Pope Paul VI began a secret four day consistory naming 35 cardinals including four Americans Archbishop Cooke Dearden Carberry Wright named.
Cleveland report says Todd Quester remains in very critical condition with a respirator. The Amherst Ohio boy, comatose a week after the bite, was admitted April 20 to Babies and Children's Hospital after an initial encephalitis diagnosis failed to improve. Claude R. Sowle named next president of Ohio University succeeding Vernon Alden. appointment approved by the board with Aug. 1 start.
