A blast at the Ohio Edison No. 2 stack in Stratton near East Liverpool injures 12 people. The extent of injuries was not immediately known and victims were taken to area hospitals. Police say leaking gas may have caused the explosion.
The US Air Force suspended all combat missions for its F111A Swing Wing jets after a third loss in a series of crashes. Allied ground forces reported captor rounds and mass prisoner rounds near Saigon during ongoing operations.
Governor James A. Rhodes said Cleveland would host the international trade center after a unanimous site panel vote. He projected more than 100 million dollars in new business and that Ohio would become the nation’s export leader, rising from third behind New York and California.
Gov James A Rhodes warns education must link to work in Ohio during industry luncheon. He calls for expanded vocational training and revised schooling to provide skills for the labor market, amid emphasis on improving job prospects in the state. University of Colorado students vote to rename the Student Union Grill in honor of Alfred E. Packer the 19th century cannibal convicted in Lake City Colorado in 1883. The campus resolution says the grill now reflects the life and standards associated with Mr. Packer.

T L Paffenbarger notes tentative dates were postponed at the request of state officials coordinating the events.
