Nationwide truckers strike threatens food supply

In Chicago a Teamsters Local 705 walkout against eight local and suburban truckers froze talks in Washington. Industry spokesmen warned that expanded walkouts and possible lockouts could halt food and produce deliveries and echo last week's Chicago area violence.

Tragic play ends in death of 5 year old in Mansfield

In Mansfield Ohio Allen Dale Sisco aged five was fatally shot by his four year old brother Darrell Ray while playing with a .32 caliber pistol in a bedroom their home. Police described it as an accidental shooting during a children’s game.

Greenwich restaurant owner dies in crash at Ripton

Mrs. Virginia Hutchinson 46 co owner of a Greenwich restaurant and wholesale pizza business died after her car hit a semi trailer truck at Routes 20 and 511. She left behind husband Edwin Hutchinson and three daughters Jo Ethel Janice Howell and Judy Baker and a son James. Her parents Chester and Glenda Gibbons preceded her in death. Her body was taken to Cowling Funeral Home Oberlin and will move to Myers Funeral Home Greenwich for arrangements.

Jury Trial Requested In Hit Skip Case

Irvin Jon Oglesby pleaded not guilty in Mayor's Court to leaving the scene of an accident after a Fruen Street crash that injured five year old Marvin Ebinger. City Solicitor will certify the case to Huron County Common Pleas Court for a jury trial. Witnesses placed a car from the Oglesby home at the scene. A second hearing before the Township Board of Trustees is planned in 30 days on zoning matters arising from earlier proposals and protests. A separate case awarded the Linders 69 950 in a Norwalk bypass land appropriation, with 12 000 for 14 to 15 acres and 52 755 awarded for additional compensation.

Airport funding campaign reaches halfway in Norwalk bulletin

The Norwalk Chamber of Commerce bulletin says $10 000 of the $20 000 needed from the public to buy a site for a Huron County Airport has been raised. The campaign targets $60 000 for the proposed Route 601 site, with plans for a downtown survey drive led by Robert Smetzer Del Arrington and others.

Steve May in Florida Sailboat Crash Faces Major Amputations

Norman and Mrs Rennecker rushed to Florida after their son Steve Rennecker was critically injured when his sailboat struck a 13 500 volt high tension wire. He underwent four operations resulting in above knee amputations and hopes to return to Ohio State University as a first year law student in the fall. The family expresses gratitude for support from friends strangers and classmates and plans a rehabilitation stint likely at University Hospital in Columbus.

Attorney Confirms Norwalk West Side Development Plans

The attorney for an investment group said plans for a Norwalk west side project are in early stages. Dennis Fedor of Fedor and Fedor declined to name principals but said the group aims to reach goals on the parcel. The proposal reportedly includes a nursing home, community center, recreation grounds, parks, and mixed residential, commercial, and professional development on the Albert Metz farm site on the city’s western edge, with part of the land eyed for a retirement center.

Electrician killed on Sandusky docks as belt starts

John Goodwin, 44, of Solvang, California, a journeyman electrician, died Thursday afternoon on the Lower Lakes Dock Co premises when a conveyor belt unexpectedly started and trapped him between the belt and a coal hopper. He died en route to Providence Hospital. The body was moved to Frey Funeral Home with funeral plans incomplete.

Tender offer reported for Norwalk Truck Lines stock

Norwalk Truck Lines says a tender offer has been made but not accepted. Irving Harper confirms the offer and denies that the company has been sold. Nortruk Corporation holds 99 percent of NTL stock and negotiations are still in embryo stages. Executives Hornblower Weeks Hemphill Noyes and Cleveland investors organized Nortruk in late 1965.
