Miller shot in left hand by friend with air pistol
Woodland Hills California Roger Miller, famed for King of the Road, was accidentally shot in the left hand by a friend with an air pistol. The two were handling the weapon Thursday believing it to be unloaded, the singer's spokesman said. The pellet struck Miller after the friend pulled the trigger.

Specialist Four James D. Hormell of Norwalk earned the Army Commendation Medal for February 31 combat heroism as a grenadier with his unit in Sai gon. He charged through heavy fire to silence an enemy automatic weapons position about 75 yards away during an escort mission. Hormell is a security guard with the 92nd Military Police Battalion Company C and arrived in Vietnam last July after enlisting in 1967. His parents are James D. Hormell of Norwalk and Kathleen Darland of Amherst.
