Indian troops move to quell New Delhi protest

Indian army units with sten guns and tear gas moved into key locations in New Delhi as police staged a mass protest demanding higher wages and concessions. Clashes followed as troops repelled demonstrators at the home of Home Minister Y B Chavan.

Speck murder case heads to jury in Peoria

The Richard Speck mass murder trial in Peoria was eight weeks long and was set to go to the jury today. Judge Herbert C. Paschen scheduled summations and expected the jury to receive the case this afternoon.

Car hits Willard woman. 89 dies after crossroad incident

An 89 year old woman, Mrs. Alice Deetz of Peru Center Road, died after being struck by a car driven by Lamont Stanfield of Dale Avenue, Willard. Stanfield, 23, said he slowed but could not stop as Deetz stepped back into the road. She died at Willard Hospital at 6 40 p.m. Survived by a daughter in Peru Center Road and a son in Orrville. Funeral will be in Orrville. Norwalk Junior Chamber of Commerce Week proclaimed by Mayor Harold E. Finch to highlight the Jaycees.

Building plans near final approval at Firelands Branch BG

Officials at the Firelands Branch of Bowling Green State University seek final building plan approval with bids advertised by April 15 and groundbreaking planned for June 1. Director Dr. James H. McBride said no word yet on approval but hopes for information soon.

Massive antiwar protest march to UN draws New York police

Up to 400000 demonstrators were expected for a peaceful march from Central Park to U N Plaza with 3000 officers deployed. Leaders ML King Stokely Carmichael and Floyd McKissick and Dr. Spock to address the crowd urging an immediate end to bombing in Vietnam. King urged a concrete peace deed and condemned U S arrogance in global policing.
