In Charleston forty nine state officials and lawmakers met Monday behind armed trooper guards for a Viet Nam briefing. A State Department officer noted it was the first time guards had been used at such doors.
A few hundred striking soft coal miners returned to work while more than 50,000 stayed out for the second day in a wage contract dispute. Strikes were concentrated in Illinois, Utah, and Kentucky with more expected to resume as the walkout continued. Meanwhile in Vietnam, B52s hit North Viet Nam amid strong anti aircraft defenses, and a U.S. infantry unit suffered heavy losses in ground fighting with the Viet Cong.
Luci Baines Johnson plans a large national wedding with 12 bridesmaids in Johnson City Texas. A family friend says the ceremony will rival any First Family event and be spectacular in scope with broad public attention.

New London School Board will not exercise an option to buy 30 acres for a new high school until a price discrepancy is resolved. The 22 plus acres tied to Wilmer White are not owned by him yet, despite negotiations initiated by White. White counters he was approached by the board and says he would not resell to the board. The price discussed was 600 per acre, with White later offering 30 000 for all 30 acres. a $1 000 check to Johnson arrived but no deed transfer.
Premier Ky and Buddhist leaders push for democracy but differ on timing. Ky vows democracy as key to defeating communism, while generals outline a two year transition with a democracy building council promised for February but not fulfilled. Critics say Buddhist politics aid the Viet Cong.
Norwalk hosts the second national watch fob collectors meeting at the American Legion Hall with 60 to 75 attendees from across the United States. Carl Copenhaver displays 725 fobs mostly advertising construction equipment and plans to live watch fobs for two days. An auction runs 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday led by Larry Freeman. admission and food are free.
President Johnson called for public and private employers to add at least a million summer work and training opportunities for 16 to 21 year olds in 1966. He cited 1965 gains and warned about unemployment if the goal is not met, stressing benefits for youths and business.
A confirmed rabies case in a Collins man after a skunk bite and a suspected rabid ground hog case near Norwalk prompt Huron County Health to urge precautions. The skunk bite led to rabies treatment for Joseph Myers as samples were sent to a Bowling Green lab.
Mrs. Angie Nar ducci 42 wife of Cuyahoga County deputy sheriff was beaten and stabbed by a masked intruder at her East Side home Monday night. She remained in fair condition at a suburban hospital with a puncture wound and bruises.
