Man to Face Murder Trial in Huron County Court

Mark Schwiefert 23 formerly of Monroeville is slated for trial in Huron County Common Pleas Court on June 16 for the stabbing death of Kenneth R. Shaw of Eden near Monroeville on January 27. The defendant’s earlier April 21 trial date was postponed at his and attorney Michael Fegen’s request. May 13 is reserved for possible motions hearings.

Shamrock Downs Sold At Sheriff’s Sale For 25333

Shamrock Downs Inc a closed quarter horse track on Zenobia Road was sold for 25333 at sheriff s sale in the Huron County Courthouse. Citizens Saving and Loan Co of Columbus bought the property for the minimum bid two thirds of the appraised value 38000. The sale drew spectators as the sole bidder.

Hunt Ordered Back To Prison For Watergate Role

Washington UPI Hunt, who said I wish I had never heard of the White House, must return to prison April 25 to finish his 22 to eight year sentence for masterminding the Watergate break in. He has already served 11 months and was freed in January 1974 pending appeal.

Cop Fires Shot At Dog From Car In Norwalk

Norwalk officer Gerald Kluding fired from a cruiser at a stray dog on Firelands Boulevard near U.S. 250 then chased the animal across a hospital lawn into a field. He fired three more shots but missed. Police defended the action as poor judgement not warranting discipline. Witnesses said bystanders and schoolchildren were nearby.

Ford asks nearly one billion in aid for South Vietnam

President Ford asked Congress for 722 million in military aid plus 250 million for economic and humanitarian help for Saigon and permission to use U S forces to evacuate Americans and South Vietnamese refugees as Saigon teeters toward collapse. Allen Roy Smith of South Bend Indiana was stranded at about 2 45 am when a maroon Buick with two men and a woman picked him up near Porter Ford Milan They robbed him of his wallet containing sixty dollars and his clothing and asked him to run across a field He was shot at as he fled and then picked up by Ohio Patrol at the U S 250 Huron Avery Road location
