Rabin resigns Labor leadership amid Israeli Watergate fallout

Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin quit as head of the Labor Party and withdrew from the upcoming election amid a Watergate style scandal. Atty. Gen. Aharon Barak said he would pursue legal action against Rabin's wife Leah for allegedly lying about a joint U.S. bank account balance of $18,000 versus the claimed $2,000.

City Council To Consider Tax Boost

Norwalk to vote April 19 on an income tax rise to balance 1977 books. Officials weigh a quarter to half percent hikes in July and 1978 to meet police and fire pay demands, with final size yet undecided. The plan could double the current 0.5 percent tax. voters must approve any larger increase.

Buckingham Palace announced that Princess Anne, 27 on Aug 15, and her husband Mark Phillips expect a baby in November. The couple was spending Easter weekend with friends at the Brigstock Horse Trials in Northamptonshire and staying privately.

Ohio Lottery Pat O' Gold winner named Alberta Johnson

Alberta Johnson of Columbus won the Pat O' Gold prize for $135,000 in the Ohio Lottery televised contest. She and husband Walter, a painter, have a grown son James in New Jersey. Judge Allows Jailhouse Calls for Inmates in Huron County

Judge Robert W. Smith issued an order shaping jail communications enabling inmates to call their lawyers by telephone. The move follows a November incident in which Willard lawyer Robert Thornton was blocked from reaching William L. Waddell, a murder suspect. The rules require jail staff to verify callers as attorneys and permit calls if verification succeeds, with no fixed time limits.

Ohio House approves broad reform of motor vehicle registrations

The Ohio House passed a large overhaul of vehicle registration with a 75-12 vote. The plan, backed by the State Department of Highway Safety, introduces computerized records, reduces deputy registrars to 228 centralized sites, and allows mail registration starting in 1979 at a $1.50 postage fee.

Bill Allows Public Employes To Strike In Ohio

Democrats in the Ohio General Assembly reintroduce Senate Bill 222 to repeal the Ferguson Act and create collective bargaining for 450,000 public employees with a limited right to strike as a last resort. The measure, outlined by Sen. Harry Meshel, would take effect July 1 1979 and allows local or state executives to permit striking safety employees rather than binding arbitration.
