A New London fire at 12 N Maple St gut the McConnell home early Tuesday morning. Gas heater is blamed. Nine month old Mike alarmed parents who evacuated to a stroller outside. Couple staying with Earl Harner as neighbors aid with essentials. Insurance coverage reported on the home.
Maria Callas, famed opera star, declared she is reverting to Greek nationality to facilitate ending her marriage to Italian industrialist Gianni Menghini. The statement was issued through her agent.

Charles Bores of 133 Whittlesey Ave found a grave marker inscription face down under a sidewalk. The stone dated 1844 and prompted a suspected gravesite.
