Lew Alcindor, the nation’s top basketball prospect, signed a professional deal with the Milwaukee Bucks, reportedly totaling about $1 million. The contract marks the start of his professional career after a standout college run.
A badly battered unidentified young man was found on a downtown Massillon street in critical condition with multiple skull fractures and body abrasions. Police said he was stripped of his clothing and dragged a considerable distance before discovery.
The Cleveland Metropolitan Housing Authority renamed the Dike Park housing project to Martin Luther King Robert F Kennedy Homes during a memorial service with messages from Coretta King and Edward M. Kennedy. A large tribute highlighted King and Kennedy’s legacies.

Hong Kong authorities released 13 detainees who were seized on yachts off the coast Feb 16, with two American men kept for interrogation. Among the freed were an American woman, an American girl, and two girls with claimed Swedish US citizenship. The group had spent 46 days in captivity and said they were treated well. They returned on two yachts en route from Hong Kong to Macao when gunboats forced landfall.

British defense sources say eight submarines and 12 surface ships are in two groups about 400 miles off Scotland's west coast as the force maneuvers. The fleet sailed from Murmansk a week ago and is the largest to enter the North Atlantic since World War II.
A car on the Ohio Turnpike flipped from a bridge into a culvert killing Estella Sitkowski 56 Pauline Zelinsky 50 and Rita Zelinsky 18. Gregory Zelinsky 15 was in critical condition with head and chest injuries. The crash occurred near milepost 108 as the vehicle encountered strong north wind en route to Riverview Michigan.
