Thomas Bradley, a Black city councilman and former police officer, leads with 41.79 percent to Sam Yorty’s 26.08 percent in a near-complete Los Angeles mayoral vote, forcing a runoff next month. Bradley rejects race as a campaign factor. Yorty accuses him of racism.
Agriculture Department data show farm prices up 2 percent for the period ending March 15 led by cattle and lettuce with tomato and milk declines offsetting some gains. The rise places prices 5 percent higher than a year ago.
City employees would receive about 20 percent raises under a proposed wage ordinance pending two more council readings. Exceptions exist in electric distribution with line foreman at 25 percent and class A lineman at 23 percent. Police and fire supervisory roles rise to 20 percent, with patrolmen and drivers showing 18 to 21 percent increases.
Four representatives from the Huron County Department of Health presented an unusual certificate to William Conway, Bronson School principal, from the National Communicable Disease Center in Atlanta for cooperation during a November investigation of a mysterious illness called the winter vomiting disease that struck many students.

The crime was discovered this morning by George Bartow when he opened the store at 8. Glass was broken from the rear door at the northwest corner and the door forced open. Police report three clues but offered no further details.
A Franklin County tax expert says state county and Columbus school tax proposals would raise the average taxpayer by over 100 dollars annually. A $7 000 income voter would pay 70 dollars, a family about 8 dollars in sales tax, and an extra 1 ¼ percent vendor tax about 20 dollars. A three mill school bond would add 7 to 21 dollars per homeowner.
