Owen Rutherford a 26 year old herpetologist was bitten by a black Australian adder at O'Hare while examining snakes from Philadelphia to Milwaukee. He drove home despite poisoning and was rushed to St Anne's then Passavant and treated with antivenin. Doctors initially worried which snake struck him but supplies from Lincoln Park Brookfield zoos and extra doses from Detroit and Indianapolis were not needed. Rutherford, a part time curator at Lincoln Park Zoo, was scheduled for several more days in hospital but recovered quickly enough to leave Monday.

Cadet Louis E. Pape, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis E. Pape, begins his junior year at the U S Air Force Academy among 775 cadets. He earns dean’s list honors and will wear a silver star insignia. He serves fall term as an element sergeant with cadet technical sergeant rank. He led summer instruction in security indoctrination for underclassmen and completed three weeks at Norton AFB California in Operation Third Lieutenant to gain early officer experience.
