Owen Rutherford extracts venom from a medium puff adder to gauge how much venom a snake can deliver. The two foot serpent discussed could yield four to five lethal bites. A puff adder bite fatal to Salt Lake City reptile keeper in 1964 is cited, and Rutherford recently survived his 13th bite from an Australian death adder, his most serious yet.
Owen Rutherford an amateur herpetologist living at 2233 N Kilpatrick was bitten by an Australian death adder at O’Hare while collecting snakes for study. He reports this 13th bite is the last and says he will stop collecting venomous reptiles after this incident.
Citizens write in about local problems including an eyesore at 1600 North Albany pending demolition. the building department will force repairs if neglect continues. A disorderly alley garbage issue at 5900 Walton prompts a $10 fine after seven days of warnings. Skinny streets around Laramie West of Huron Lockwood may become one way if residents petition Alderman Casey for a study. An apartment at 4700 Washington shows progress with repairs. a court continuance was granted and the next date is November 14.
Four people were arrested on the West-Northwest Side and in a Loop law office after an undercover officer disrupted a plan to firebomb police cars and two department stores during a peace march. The group faced charges of conspiracy to commit aggravated battery and arson. evidence included acid bottles and a Molotov cocktail formula linked to the Heavenly Blue Light hippie group.
Governor Shapiro greets candidates including Matt Danaher for clerk of circuit court and Edward Hanrahan for Cook County state's attorney at a reception honoring State Sen. Thomas A. McGloon and Alderman Thomas J. Casey. Attorney General William Clark also meets with McGloon as the U S Senate candidate.

Police learned the four members sought to buy explosives from a suburban firm. They rented a basement apartment at 216 N Mayfield and arranged to obtain acids, cotton, and bottles to make bombs. The operation, tied to the Heavenly Blue Light, included recruitment activity in Chicago and downstate.

Edward Aitken 42 an off duty firefighter was badly burned when a CTA bus collided with a car and gasoline exploded at 5439 Division Street. He aided others before being taken to County burn unit with over 50 percent body burn. Other victims included Rudy Sustek and Mrs Zaparaniuk treated for burns and injuries. The bus driver faced charges including following too closely and improper brakes. Proceedings set for Traffic court next Tuesday.
