Representative Frank Annunzio reports that Vietnam era and older veterans and dependents in his district will receive about 670940 in VA benefits over the next 12 months. The increase comes from the new G I Bill provisions signed by President Johnson, including a cost of living pension rise and expanded educational and readjustment aid for thousands of eligible veterans and dependents.

Learns to Fight At Camp Pendleton

Pvt. Robert Lange son of Mrs Lorraine Scanlon 1736 N Fairfield has completed two weeks of training at Camp Pendleton California in day and night patrolling infantry weapons survival and assault tactics. He will undergo advanced training before assignment to his permanent unit.

Area 5 Detective Awarded Valor for Gas Station Robbery Stop

Detective Thomas Reilly of the Area 5 general assignments unit at Shakespeare Police Station received the Superintendent's Award of Valor, the department's second highest bravery honor. He foiled a 1:30 a.m. Sept 10 gas station robbery at Chicago and Kedzie by capturing two suspects and killing a third who threatened the attendant with a gun, after observing three men casing the station and moving the attendant to a rear room.

Logan Y Seeks 50000 Drive This Weekend

Logan Square YMCA launches a door to door weekend drive on November 4 and 5 to raise 50000 for a 500000 addition and indoor pool. Chairman John G. Symons says the goal is 1 per family with 100000 already raised and 600 volunteers recruited by Mrs. Carlotta Jonas.

McCormick and Fisher Two Soldiers Lost in Vietnam

Sp 4 James M. McCormick of Austin High School and Sp 4 David W. Fisher of the 25th Army Division were killed in Vietnam. McCormick’s burial followed a homecoming in Chicago after a long family ordeal, while Fisher died leading a patrol and will be buried at Irving Park Cemetery after services at Emmaus Methodist Church.

One Way Routes New X way Plan For Crosstown Expressway

The West Metropolitan Area Council proposes a two-highway Crosstown with a northbound Pulaski route and a southbound path east of Belt Line. The plan includes a Midway to Kennedy Expressway corridor with an industrial park between routes and separate truck and passenger lanes.
