Dave Perlin, of 4301 North, plans to destroy a $5,000 stock of toy guns to deter youths from upgrading to real weapons. For each toy brought in, he will destroy both the toy and a new gun in a special machine. He urges youngsters to surrender their toy weapons starting Monday June 24.
Readers report a large loose dog in the 5000 block of Gladys terrorizing people. Police citations may follow for license and rabies tag violations. Also addressed are public dog waste, alley repairs, parkway cleanup, and bird identifications with local city officials responding.

Marine Pvt John H. Horban Jr aged 20 completed eight weeks of recruit training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego California. He is the son of Mr and Mrs John C Horban of 328 North Karlov.
The Mayor's commission on youth welfare will offer free summer recreation for youths up to 19 at three Northwest Side Catholic churches and the Logan Square YMCA. June 27 marks official start with site directors and volunteers guiding a nine week program featuring sports, cultural activities, movies, weekly trips, and open swimming.
A Chicago Education Board projection covers 1970 to 1975, forecasting rapid westward population shifts. By 1970 Austin High district will be virtually 100 percent Negro east of Laramie, with 60 percent Negro in areas south of Lake Street.
