Cpl Richard L. Gerardi son of Peter J. Gerardi of 2102 N Moody reported for duty with Marine Air Base Squadron, a unit of the New River Marine Corps air facility in Jacksonville, North Carolina.
Edward Arnold of Humboldt Park Jehovah's Witnesses says the solution to communism lies in God's Word. He notes Witnesses were banned in Communist lands and underground, citing 1966 hours of teaching in iron-curtain countries and anti-communist resolutions at assemblies.
A collage of letters and columns urges vigilance on lake and stream pollution, cites Wisconsin and Illinois actions, and promotes the Clean Streams committee. Eddie Harris, 31, of 4045 Carroll, faces a battery charge after Chicago Transit Authority detective Robert Zawack seized him at Pulaski and Lake where Miss Lisa M. Ruzzio, 17, 1107 N Hamlin, said Harris grabbed her waist and attempted to embrace her.
The Azereth Zion synagogue in West Humboldt Park disbanded after decades of activity. $20,000 from the sale proceeds were turned over to the Combined Jewish Appeal. Key organizers included David Baker Joseph Fuchs and Oscar M Nudelman. The building dated from 1928. Also noted is a visit by Mr and Mrs Arnold Rasmussen to Sarasota Jungle Gardens in Florida.
Gary Tomaszki alias Gary Edward Thomas, 21, previously charged with auto theft, is accused of stealing Frank Pollak's car. Police say Tomaszki was linked to multiple thefts, with prior arrests on July 24 and July 13. Sandra Halick charged with criminal trespass in a vehicle.
Four juveniles were charged with burglary after a vandalism spree at Nobel Elementary School 4137 Hirsch. A 14 year old boy led police to other suspects, and all four are in Family court. Damage included glass, lamps and extinguishers from classrooms.
Pioneer Trust and Savings Bank at 4000 North announces Ernest E Coe as vice president and operations officer. Don Kreider, president, says Coe will oversee operations systems and procedures and first study current practices to maximize efficiency and service. Coe previously led Lake Villa Trust and Savings Bank and began banking in 1946 with a Loop institution. He is married with five children.
Postmaster Henry W McGee announced Chicago parcel post deliveries expand from five to six days a week starting Saturday. The change ends inequity for many business and residential routes, noting motorized routes already had six days while foot routes received smaller parcels previously.
Sister Mary Edelburst administrator of St. Mary of Nazareth hospital in Chicago will be advanced to Fellowship status in the American College of Hospital Administrators on August 20. Peter B. Terenzio ACHA president announces he will preside at the 33rd Convocation in Orchestra Hall during the society’s annual meeting held with the American Hospital Association convention.
