Nepal mission awaits longtime foreign service secretary
Irmgard Emmet a Northwest Side woman returns from a 28 month stint in Sapporo Japan to begin a new overseas assignment in Katmandu Nepal She has served since 1958 as a government employee and since 1959 as a foreign service secretary Her prior postings include Colombo Lahore Amsterdam and Sapporo She plans to depart Washington July 26 by plane with stops in Dublin Amsterdam Hamburg Frankfurt and Lahore before arriving in Katmandu on August 14 Her experiences abroad include language barriers cultural exchange and hosting VIPs at embassies She urges young women to consider foreign service for travel language skills and cross cultural work.

Four Recreation Centers Host Humboldt Day Camps
Humboldt Park calls four recreation centers to run summer day camps for boys and girls 6 to 13 with about 50 children per site. 800 Turn Out To Honor Police Hero Art Benefit
More than 800 people attended a benefit dinner dance in Austin to honor Sgt. Gerald Doll, with proceeds toward a home for his widow and five children. Attendees included Doll’s wife Mary Agnes, his mother Josephine, and two brothers, plus fellow officers from the 15th district. The event recalled Doll’s heroism during a gun battle with his killer Gary Horton. Horton was killed and a companion Delia Ann Jones wounded. Police Lt. Mark Thanassouras presented Doll’s Award of Valor posthumously.
