Mrs T C Patterson hosts the Tuesday Bridge Club and Mrs F H Garlow entertains for her daughter’s first birth anniversary. Watermelons appear in the market at 65 to 70 cents each as T T Cramer shears 4500 sheep north of the river for Mehlman Walter. Hugh details cover property sales, loans approved, Elks building prep, and local weather with rain. Mrs W W Cummings visited Sidney friends while E R Goodman did business in Omaha and Lincoln. Mrs Ralph Garman planned a Malvern Iowa visit, and Mrs Guy Swope traveled to Callaway. Rail and municipal staff notes, weddings, and upcoming trips frame regional life.
Miss Laura Campbell of Omaha visits Mrs. J. J. Halligan. Miss Elms of Omaha stays with Dr. and Mrs. J. K. Elms. Mrs. Hill from Council Bluffs visits daughter Mrs. Grace Harrison. Mrs. O. W. Brandt plans a Kansas City visit for two months. Miss Ora Flint arrives from Los Angeles to stay with Mr. and Mrs. Garlow for two months. Miss Sara Clabaugh from Pittsburg visits her brother John Clabaugh for summer. Laura and Mollyneaux reach Liverpool. The Watt and Drew families appear in town for church dedication and wedding events. Mr. and Mrs. Allen plan to live in Omaha. Frank Newman returns to Hanover after visiting. E. R. Smith and daughter return from Omaha after two serious operations.

As the Fourth of July nears North Platte celebrates with major features. Fireworks displays occur twice including one after the races and a night show. Balloon ascensions parachute drops occur in forenoon and evening. Auto and motorcycle races draw entries from nearby towns. A large parade will include many floats from business houses and fraternal groups. Fire department contests and minor races for all ages will fill the day.
Mr. McCune from Omaha spent Saturday in town under World-Herald auspices to gauge Democratic mood on the U S senator race between Hitchcock and Bryan. He found a shift with former Bryan supporters now backing Hitchcock and noted petitions for Bryan had been returned unsigned.
Thirty Harmony Club members and guests gathered Friday at Mrs J C Feder hoofs home with her daughter Mrs G S Huffman assisting. Eight tables hosted high five games. Miss OConnor claimed ladies prize while Mrs Fred Waltemath won ladies consolation. Fred Wite mate and Mr Bare tied in wins before a card draw gave Bare the final edge. C Clinton took gentlemen s consolation. a midnight two course lunch followed with Irma Huffman Helen Waltemath and Mayme Piser helping.
Heavy rains on Friday broke a weeks long drouth in Nebraska with six tenths of an inch and another five tenths at nine PM. The moisture should help corn pastures and hay land though oats and barley likely were past saving. In county court the state vs Eliza Nation heard over a peace bond after a feud with Walter Recard, both found quarrelsome and bound over.
Police issue a friendly warning to drivers and motorcyclists to reduce speed to the ordinance limit and keep lamps lit or face arrest. The notice applies to auto drivers as well and urges compliance to avoid trouble.
Expect a large crowd at the third annual Farmers Picnic next Thursday at the experimental sub-station. Farmers from Lexington to Sidney are urged to attend to view the dry farming experiments conducted on the farm. A cowboy band will perform and State Senator Brown will speak on dry farming.

Hotel Timmerman served a fine dinner Sunday with strong patronage. A sneak thief stole four dollars from the Y M C A after closing. A youth is suspected. A fire in Sigel Melton’s barn southwest of Wallace killed five horses and four mules. equipment and saddles burned. Hats on sale at The Leader. Ladies’ shirts arrive with 20 percent discount. Rev. T B Greenlee leaves for Colorado after assisting at church dedicatory services. Mrs. Greenlee stays briefly in town then returns to Omaha. Mrs. O R Robinson hosted sixteen ladies at a pre nuptial china shower for Miss Vera Sitton with guessing games and gifts for the bridal trousseau.
North Platte resident H. G. Brooks reports using Dean's Kidney Pills for back and kidney pain with frequent nocturnal secretions.
