Catastrophic Freight Crash Leaves Several Dead and Wrecks Track
A Friday morning Union Pacific freight collision near North Platte wrecked thirteen cars and destroyed rolling stock and perishable cargo. Engineer Kelly, fireman and brakeman died or were badly injured as the boiler and locomotive projected across tracks. The unknown man found amid wreckage was later identified as a Boise City chauffeur, with his mother in New York learning of the tragedy.

G A R members helped with transport to Sidney and traced the old soldier once living in Ogden who had gone to Missouri to find a brother. He ran out of money and became ill during the return journey.

Railroad grading for Bridgeport to Kearney line
