Iowa Blue and Gray Reunion of Civil War Regiments
The Iowa Brigade veterans from the Twenty-Second Twenty-Fourth and Twenty-Eighth regiments met at Iowa City on Sept 10 20 for a two day reunion. Speakers included Gen Stephen D Lee and local figures. Campfires drew around 2000 attendees as memories of Cedar Creek Vicksburg and Winchester stirred old comrades. The event honored fallen comrades and featured welcome addresses and music. Local ministers and residents prepared lavish hospitality marking one of the era’s most spirited gatherings.
