Set Aside Will Contest At Des Moines Court
The week brings a suit to set aside the late Alanson Clark’s will. W C Chesbro of Des Moines and Metcalfe Gorrell appear for Verona Margaret Miller by her next friend Mrs S M Ingraham, claiming Verona is Clark’s natural daughter born Aug 21 1805. The petition states Clark acknowledged parentage and made a secret last will. It notes $400 was received for the child’s support and that the will probated may be challenged at the December term before Judge Ryan.

Arthur Harvin aged forty three died at his son David Harvin’s home after a brief illness. Born in Kentucky he settled four miles west of Newton on his farm. He was survived by one son and two daughters. Funeral at the family residence in Herman township with burial in Newton cemetery.

Mystic Shrine Lodge to be instituted in Newton
A class of about thirty will be initiated into the Order of the Mystic Shrine in Newton Thursday Dec 12. Kaaba Temple of Davenport will confer the degree and two hundred or more visiting Shriners are expected to be present. A parade is planned in the afternoon followed by initiation at Maso Temple and a gun banquet served by the Eastern Star at the Armory.
