Removal of His Right Eye After Seven Years
Neal Cating of near Galesburg suffered an eye injury when a steel fragment entered and lodged in the right eye. The fragment could not be removed earlier and blinded that eye. Recently inflammation threatened his remaining sight, prompting doctors to remove the diseased eye. The operation took place at his father Morris Cating’s home with Dr. Harry Engle and Dr. Carpenter of Galesburg assisting.

Mine Collapse Kills and Injures Des Moines Worker Luke Watkins
A slate fall in the Bloomfield mines near Des Moines last Thursday fatally injures Luke Watkins who died soon after? Actually he survived briefly at the Methodist Hospital with a broken back and internal injuries. Watkins leaves a wife and six children and is son of the region’s renowned Wesley Watkins. His sister Mrs Will Rothrock has cared for him as he awaits possible death. A Chicago trip to visit an aging aunt arrived the day of the accident.

The twelve year old daughter of Gs Schnathorst living on the Ebert place nine miles northeast was accidentally shot in the right limb last Saturday. A neighbor child discharged a target gun. the ball entered above the knee and passed through the bone. Dr Engle removed the ball. the wound is painful but expected not to permanently cripple the girl.

Old Comrade Kissel Laid To Rest In Newton
Henry Kissel, veteran of Company B Thirteenth Iowa, is mourned by family and old comrades. He survived Shiloh where wounded in the lungs, later ran a Newton drug business, and left three children and a stepson. Funeral services held from North Farmers street with Universalist faith and Odd Fellows in attendance.
