Tragic Railroad Death of James Murdoch Jr
The community is stunned by the discovery of James Murdoch Jr on the Rock Island track between Newton and Metz. Coroner's inquest ties the death to heavy Sunday drinking with five companions earlier that day. Murdoch, known as Garthe, was 23 and lived near Newton with his parents. Funeral services followed at the U.P. Church, with burial at Wild Cat cemetery.
