Death of Deacon J B Hough Jasper counties early settler
Obituary notes the death of Deacon Joseph Bond Hough of Newton after a long illness. Born 1823 in Virginia, he moved to Jasper County in 1834, taught school, served as County Clerk, worked in Civil War Provost Marshals, and later in lumber and grain. A Congregational deacon since 1859, he supported his church with quiet steadfastness. Funeral held at the Congregational church with Rev. Harrah and Rev. Baumgardner in attendance.
