Wood alcohol poison kills two in Clear Creek area
A Clear Creek township tragedy linked to wood alcohol claims two deaths and serious sickness in four others after residents, including W S Harmon and Bert Neal, drank Columbian spirits sold by painter Lester Blue. Coroner and a three member jury investigated the deaths of Mrs Neal and Gib Wooster while Blue was jailed as the case probes possible additional victims.

The Friday Club held a Garden Party on Mrs. A M Harrah’s lawn with about forty attendees including husbands. Miss Belle Smith, guardian of the Reading Room, was guest of honor. An impromptu musicale at the Jasper home featured Miss Marie Jones of Des Moines, with singing by Jones and other performances. Light refreshments followed as guests departed.

Elmer Fitzgerald Seeks Renewed Cancer Cure Hope
About a year after a successful treatment for a large cancer on his left side Elmer Fitzgerald faces a rapid new cancer on his right breast or side. A previous healer, now deceased, had cured him but secret methods died with him. Elmer and his wife stay with his parents four miles west of town as they pursue another cure amid alarm and hopeful support.
