Newton Bicycle Club crowds enjoy racing at the fairground despite wet track conditions. Results include One Mile events with prizes, handicaps, and exhibitions by W J Snook and A Bogardus. Obituaries and local notices follow, including deaths and funeral arrangements for Mrs Ann E Jobes and others.
A company muster of the survivors of LosB held Thursday morning with roll call including Skiff Newton B Eyerly Ne Licut.Geo Hunter Newton and others. The event featured Capt Kepler of Co A 13th Reg and discussion of marking regiment lines by Sgt D G Stover. The report also covers the Newton bicycle club turnout, editor remarks on journalism, a bicycle accident injuring Henry Morrison, a store opening by Louis R Maytag Co at Laurel, a Prairie City wedding, and reunion highlights with speeches and gatherings.
The Des Moines township Sunday school association held a profitable meeting at Jas Vrooms grove on August 21. Speakers included Mattie M Bailey of Shenandoah and C C Wallace on Bible history. Officers elected: President A P Wing, Vice President C P Emery, Secretary Coral Bailey, Treasurer Cammie Nixon.
Another Corner Clothing Store Swisher Bros of Grinnell has purchased C. H. Kramer’s stock and will move it to the large room once occupied by Reinking Timpe on September 1. The new firm will be Swisher Bros. & C. Charl ailey remains manager and will continue in Newton.
One Side Hoard. The Colfax injunction case up before Judge Ryan Tuesday. Judge Cook and C. C. McLain argued for the school board defendants H. S. Winslow, attorney for petitioners, was at the Code Commission meeting and will present the plaintiff's argument later.

Proceedings to be printed in pamphlet form.
