PEPCO backs two new Dickerson plants amid fuel and ash plans
PEPCO officials told Dickerson residents and Sugarloaf group members that the two proposed plants would be powered by coal rail delivered from Western Maryland and neighboring counties, with ash to be stored on PEPCO land and not dumped on public roads. They said groundwater would be protected by containment ponds and on-site reuse, and that the plants, costing about $1.3 billion in 1987 dollars, aim to meet future demand with gasifier-ready design and a first unit expected by 1994.
