NFL offers to relax Rozelle Rule in new contract
The NFL presented a Chicago offer to the NFLPA to curb the Rozelle Rule by guaranteeing players with at least four years will not be forced to switch teams. It allows free agency after three year contracts, retroactive to Feb. 1 1974, running through 1978, with other reforms including higher pensions, raised minimum salaries, and expanded insurance. Negotiations aimed to resolve the labor dispute continue as Usery mediates.
