Dairy industry to deregulate under House plan
Republican leaders on the House Agriculture Committee propose scrapping regional dairy orders and price formulas. The plan, aimed at saving $500 million over seven years as part of a $13.4 billion farm aid package, would end most dairy supports except export subsidies and remove the 14 cent per hundredweight fee by Jan 1 1996. Transition payments would be issued to farmers over seven years, with government dairy spending falling to about $240 million annually through 2000.
