4-H queen and king crowned at Great Frederick Fair
Kimberly Stup of Thurmont was named 4-H queen by outgoing queen Robin Fawey, as Tymon Hevner of Johnsville won the 4-H king title. The event marked the 30th anniversary of the Frederick County 4-H Queen Contest, with the king contest entering its 18th year. Stup, 17, a Gov. Thomas Johnson senior, plans a veterinary medicine career and thanks 4-H for shaping her. Hevner, Walkersville High senior, intends college in a science field and credits 4-H with leadership and life skills. First runner-ups and princesses were named. scholarships were awarded to 4-H royalty for the first time.

Confed Gravestones Replaced at Mount Olivet by Civil War Group
The Maryland division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans dedicated two new gravestones at Mount Olivet Cemetery behind worn originals for 19th Georgia Regiment soldiers Pvt. C. N. Daniel and Sgt. Augustus Owens. Re-enactors submitted proof of burial and obtained permission to mark the graves. Daniel enlisted June 26.
