New 4-H Cake Auction at Great Frederick Fair

Nearly 100 blue ribbon 4-H baked goods will be auctioned to the highest bidders Monday night at 8pm in the Beef Sale Ring. A bulletin board will display cake types and bidders can view from tiered bleachers as Irvin Renn auctions the champion items, with grand prizes reaching hundreds of dollars in past years.

4-H Auction Boosts Countywide Programs With Cake Sale

Food and Fancy in 1976 featured Richard Berger of Gem Laundry buying the champion cake for at least four years at premium prices to aid the 4-H program. Last year’s buyer was Paul Droneburg with daughter Deb bie Hawthorne bidding. Earle Nicholson and Robert Meunier will auction the final two thirds, serving as ring men with Bill Baker. Proceeds fund countywide 4-H activities including home economics projects, workshops, fashion revue, and leader recognition events.
