Grand jury urges county to rebuild Montevue Home

Frederick Towne Mall Anniversary Celebration Planned

Frederick Towne Mall marks its sixth anniversary with a week long event starting Wednesday. The celebration features a birthday cake decorations a Happy Birthday clown and Conti Family performances. Opened August 1972 the mall has surpassed early sales projections reaching about 50 million annually. Armory eyed as potential new library site in Frederick

Commissioner Sterling E Bollinger proposed the National Guard Armory at Second and Bentz streets as a library headquarters option during the county commissioners meeting. He noted older sites like the old courthouse and Warfield property were inadequate or too costly to renovate, and recalled a April plan to place the library at Frederick Community College campus outside the beltway. The armory could be offered via the A-15 surplus process within 18 months, with sale or lease undecided, as a hillside guard facility is planned near Jug Bridge.

Kemptown school plans win state approval

The 102-acre Kemptown Church Road site for a 600-pupil elementary school won approval from the state Interagency Committee for School Construction on the condition of a discharge point to Fabroey Branch for a larger sewer system. Construction slated for July 1979 with occupancy around September 1980. Local COG objections focused on water and sewer plan amendments delaying the project.
